PocketPC's and Bluetooth Headsets 17 Sep
My current cell phone is pushing three years old (cannot hold a charge very long) and a new one is on my holiday wish list. Regardless of all the problems with Bluetooth, it's a functionality that my coworkers cannot live without, and one that I'm envious of. And, of course, there are other uses that the manufacturers didn't intend.

Heh 22 Jul
Call me skeptical, but how long do you think BugMeNot will be allowed to operate?

I really like the idea of the service as I've used various addresses in a domain to test if my data was actually protected by those that claimed that they wouldn't sell it or release it without my permission. For the majority of those sites, the addresses I used quickly made it into spammers address books.

But back to the question... Call it a prediction if you want, but I can forsee at least a token effort to get a law passed to make this sort of thing illegal. Or you can just call me skeptical.

Spam Noise 03 Apr
I'm blogging this one 'cause I want to investigate the tool once I've got more time.... Given the amount of spam that's getting past my filters, DSpam may be the next tool/tech to take a look at (it contains Bayesian noise filters).

Wireless VoIP on a lanyard around your neck! 21 Mar
I have a sales droid mockup of one of these on my desk at work. It's swag from a recent wireless conference that I attended. Just too cool. Voice dial. Touch to talk. Caller ID. The only drawbacks that I could come up with is that this is not a phone. Other people in the room get to hear both sides of the conversation. Also, the size of the battery probably doesn't lend to extended conversations. Obvious uses? Hospitals and warehouses where the user is normally mobile.

404 Research 05 Mar
(heh), flash games on 404 pages. What a serious (but fun) waste of time! How long before someone does something evil, or good, with this.

Tao Book 11 Feb
This is a reminder for me: Watch for this book! He also has some interesting things linked on his homepage. Aside: Richard, I want one! Who's the publisher? Aside: Rob, if you still read this blog, this may be a book for one of your classes. It looks like Richard uses your method for "proving" how something works.

More Hitchhikers on the radio 06 Nov

File this one under the "Mebbe I Should Start a 'Cult' Category" category. (That's where the BBC filed it.)

The BBC is going to adapt the remaining Hitchhiker's books to audio.

Yeah, I know: This makes me an old geek. Doesn't anyone else remember staying up late to listen to the Radio Mystery Theater? Extra credit if you did it via a tube or crystal set!

I will donate the following service to Bill Gates (if he wants it) 05 Nov
I hereby volunteer my instance of Vixie Cron for Bill Gates's use so that this never happens again.

Bill: Give me a list of the domains and their expirations and I set up cron jobs so that you can be notified a month or so ahead of time.

Update:Jeremy has a short bit about Vixie cron.
